1. Why should students use Pogojo?

The basic idea behind Pogojo is based on providing learning material to students created by other students, aimed at improving their education, whilst also rewarding them for their hard work and time spent in creating that work. We, at Pogojo, love the idea of students making money from past lecture notes and assignments that they are proud of; work that would otherwise be sitting in a drawer somewhere or even in a rubbish bin.

Ultimately, Pogojo is driven by the single goal of "improving university life" through a service that allows students to "Upload & Earn" , "Download & Learn" !

Study smart and succeed – go Pogojo!

7. Do I pay tax on the money I earn at Pogojo?

Firstly, Pogojo is not a professional tax adviser (if we were, we would have the biggest house in the street in the best suburb in Australia!) - we recommend that you get your own advice but in general terms, you will need to declare the money you make from the sale of your work for income tax purposes.

In simple terms, you can earn up to $15,000 per annum from all sources (including the sale of your university work through Pogojo) without paying tax because the Low Income Offset rebate reduces your $1,350 tax liability to zero! If you earn more than $15,000 p.a., you may have deductions such as books, course fees etc that can bring your income down below $15,000 p.a.

If you happen to have the world best university work and start selling significant amounts of work that earns you more than $15,000 p.a. after your deductions are included, you may like to register for an ABN. This can be done free at Australian Business Register website. You will not need to register for GST unless your turnover exceeds $75,000.

8. Who gets paid for a group assignment?

If you’re uploading a group assignment, it’s important that you have your fellow students’ permission to do so. It will then be up to you to decide how sale payments will be distributed.

9. How much does it cost to Upload my work for sale?

Nothing. You only pay when you download the work of other students.

10. Is my work automatically approved?

To ensure all documents are uploaded correctly and for quality assurance purposes, Pogojo implements a quick check of the work before uploading it on the site. This process takes no more than 72 hours to complete and you’ll receive an 'approved' email notification once completed. All verified documents will then receive an "Approval Seal" which appears on the bottom of the listing.

11. How do I reference work using Pogojo's document?

If you download a paper from Pogojo and use some of its contents in your work, you’re required to reference the author as you would with any other resource used in your submission. Typically Australian universities use the author-date, or the Harvard style of referencing, which is widely accepted in academic publications but please check your university’s referencing guide to ensure that you comply.

As Pogojo does not require your real name when uploading documents, we suggest you include the appropriate references used by the students whose work you downloaded and also provide a hyperlink in your paper to show where it was sourced from.

12. What is Pogojo's refund policy?

Pogojo takes great care to ensure that all documents that are approved for uploading are accurately reflected in terms of the paper’s description, the type of content, the title, and that the title matches the content, the word count (give or take 15% for tables, bibliographies and footnotes etc) and the category. If you feel that you have downloaded a paper that is not accurately described, and if we feel you have a strong case, we will refund you 100% of the purchase price for that work. It is important to note that Pogojo does not guarantee the quality of any work and will not refund any money if the work has been accurately described but is not up to your standard in terms of quality. In this situation, you can use the star rating system to reflect your views of quality.

There are some exceptions, but yes it is generally legal to buy and sell academic content for the vast majority of university students.

Subject to your university’s intellectual property policies, if you have created any academic content, and as long as you are not a university employee, you are generally considered to be the owner of the copyright in that work. Accordingly, unless you transfer copyright in writing to another party (e.g. your university), you own and will be entitled to submit your university work for sale - so go for it!

It is also permissible to download and buy academic content from other students; the key is how you use it. We suggest you use whatever you purchase as a resource tool to help you complete your course, as you would any other resource - the key is to respect the rights of other authors, including their copyright, and to comply with your university's plagiarism policy.
